Sian Townson
I’m Dr Sian Townson (was Lawson), a scientist and writer. Academically I hold a PhD in Clinical Biomechanics (motion analysis) from the University of Oxford and a First Class BSc in Equine (Anatomical) Science from the University of Bristol. In the past I’ve been an invited speaker on biomechanics on six different continents, and have worked with polar bears, Oompa Loompas, zombies, and numerous students of all types and levels (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1661108/). I currently lecture at Edinburgh and Northumbria Universities, supervise the odd MSc and PhD, and I’m the External Examiner for Bristol University Vet School. I do visual effects, act as an expert witness, write fiction and non-fiction, and do comment and opinion pieces for publications such as The Guardian, New Statesman, and Times Higher Ed. I’m not available for private hire.

I live with my husband, two children, four horses, a dog, and a cat-panther hybrid in Northumberland, U.K. I’m fond of mentioning that before that I lived in Paris, France but actually I’m originally from Bahrain, I just haven’t been home for decades. You can contact me by Email at sian@equinemechanics.com.
